World news – Warriors’ Stephen Curry sets franchise record for assists

With his support from Kelly Oubre Jr. in the third quarter against the Lakers on Monday night at the Chase Center, Stephen Curry, the Warriors’ guardian, became the franchise leader for assists for a career, breaking the 55-year franchise record by Guy Rodgers of 4,855.

In the first minute of the third quarter, Curry found a cutting Kelly Oubre Jr., who met through Lakers striker LeBron James and gave Curry his 4,856th career support. Curry joined Rogers at 4:18 in the first quarter when he saw James Wiseman diving on the edge.

Curry is best known for his 3-point shooting from extraordinary distances, but his ability to turn that space into easy shots for his teammates was a major factor in the Warriors’ success. His sense of getting his own look and defying others is second to none.

« The assistants don’t even start telling the story of a good Pastor Steph, » said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. “He can make passes with both hands and is flashed so often that many of his passports are forced into traffic. And he does an incredible job of getting the ball out of the trap and finding the right man.  »

While Draymond Green is well on its way to leading the Warriors in assists for the fifth of the last six seasons, Curry is the origin of Golden State’s heavy ball movement.

« The Steph-Draymond connection has been so strong for us over the years, and a big part of that interaction is that Steph actually brings the ball to Draymond. Many of his best passes don’t even result in an assist. They lead to Draymond’s support.  »

When Curry first entered the NBA as the tiny Davidson point guard, he drew comparisons with Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash, who won two MVP awards (2005, 2006) for having the  » Seven « the Suns could start seconds or less ».

Now, 12 years later, the Warriors are on track to lead the NBA assists for the sixth time in the past seven seasons. In a team without Klay Thompson’s shooting skills that can no longer rely on Kevin Durant’s isolation size, ball movement has become even more important than it did during the five Golden State finals.

While trying to get a playoff push with a new cast, Curry will increase his assistance fee and further establish himself as the greatest Warriors player in franchise history.

The next record in sight? Wilt Chamberlain (17,783) is currently the franchise’s front runner in terms of points.
