A fire broke out on board a cruise ship off the coast of the Greek island of Corfu.
A number of images and videos are floating online showing black smoke rising from the side of the docked cruise ship MSC Lirica.
According to several reports, including today’s US, which is a direct quote from a spokesman the cruise line, there were 51 crew members aboard the ship at the time of the fire, but luckily no injuries were reported.
The quote reads: « A fire on board MSC Lirica, apparently from an empty lifeboat Deck 6 was reported to the rescue service today in Corfu, where the ship is currently warm. «
It goes without saying that the cruise ship MSC Lirica can carry up to 2,548 passengers and 752 crew members when fully operational . The ship is 902 feet long and weighs 65,591 tons.
One person tweeted a video entitled, « The scene in the port of Corfu right now ».
