RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season two is set to hit the screens again soon, with a brand new cast of hopeful drag queens and a number of prominent guest judges to join RuPaul, Graham Norton, Michelle Visage and Alan Carr.
The new series was filmed in 2020 with a break in between when the nation went into the first Covid-19 ban but was finalized towards the end of the year.
Here’s everything you need to know about when RuPaul’s Drag Race was filmed and how long the cast and crew had to take a break from shooting.
The second season of Drag Race UK started in early 2020, shortly after the first series aired.
Production was temporarily halted when the government put a nationwide lockdown in March to contain the surge in coronavirus cases.
A BBC spokesman said at the time: « Given the spread of Covid -19, after much deliberation, the production of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will temporarily cease filming in consultation with the BBC and be supported by it. »
In the meantime, significant changes have been made to the workroom so that the production team could comply with coronavirus regulations when the participants returned.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK took a break from filming when the first national ban went into effect.
Filming was paused for a few months and the series resumed in a Covid-safe manner and completed in late 2020.
The hiatus gave some queens the opportunity to work harder on their looks. Alan Carr revealed that some attendees returned with even better outfits.
He said, “They hope that during this break they would come to a sewing machine, take out the old needle and everything.
« Some of them were obviously like, ‘Wow, ok, the standard is so good, right, I’ll do something about it.’ So I was disappointed that some of them hadn’t. But wow, the ones that had – oh my god, amazing. «
The cameras were still rolling during the lockdown so we could see what the queens were did during their time at home.
