The Providence Friars and Xavier Musketeers meet on Sunday at the Cintas Center college basketball.
Providence comes so far 7: 4 in this game. The brothers had won consecutive games before falling to Creighton in their final game. The Musketeers are now 9-2. Providence started the year 2-2, before three wins against Fairleigh Dickinson, TCU and Seton Hall. After losing to Butler, the brothers defeated DePaul and Butler before falling to Creighton 67-65 in the game last weekend.
In the loss to the Bluejays, Providence’s Nate Watson and David Duke scored 13 points each, making four assists and 14 rebounds. Noah Horchler added 12 points with four boards and AJ Reeves had 10 points with four rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Xavier side, they came out of the box this year with an eight-game winning streak – and a couple of close escapes mingled with them. After two straight defeats to Creighton and Seton Hall, Xavier managed a 69-61 win over St. Johns in their last game.
In defeating the storm, Xavier’s Colby Jones scored 16 points with four rebounds and three assists. Jason Carter scored a double-double with 11 points and 16 boards, and Dwon Odom added 11 points with five rebounds and two assists.
Xavier is 4-1 ATS in their last five games after an ATS win and 4 -1 ATS in the last five home games. The over is 10-4 in the Musketeers’ last 14 total and 9-3 in their last 12 home games.
Meanwhile, Providence has 1-4 ATS in the last five Sunday games and ATS in the last nine games after an ATS -Win 7-2 ATS. The end is 6-2 in the brothers’ last eight games overall and 4-0 in the last four street games.
PICK: I’m going to take Providence here. However, this should be a damn good matchup. The brothers fought bravely against Creighton in their final game, despite shooting just 33.8 percent from the field and 70.6 percent from the line. Providence held the rebound edge between 45 and 35 and would have fired a few more shots we would have been upset. Xavier will give the brothers another test, but I think Providence is ready to do so on a cover.
