MITCHELL Johnson has no regrets trading his cricket whites for designer sons for his next phase as a brand ambassador

The recently retired fast bowler, who was hired as a brand ambassador for Queensland-based Squad Athletica, said he felt relieved after moving on to the next phase of his life

« It was a very good decision – I felt a weight fell off my shoulder when I got rid of the game, » he said

The 37-year-old retired from international cricket in 2015 before announcing the end of his career in all forms of the sport in August

Johnson, born in Townsville and based in Perth, who has since dabbled in fashion design, said he also enjoys spending more time with his family – his wife Jessica and young children Rubika and Leo

« I remember my daughter once said ‘daddy don’t go’ (as I was getting ready to go play) and it really hit home, » he said.

Teaming up with Squad Athletica was a natural fit for Johnson, who said staying in shape after retiring from the sport was a priority

« I want to be able to run with my kids, play with them and follow them, » he said

« The gym has always been a place I can go to clear my mind and I have always enjoyed it – one hour a day helps everything, I can come home and be more myself and less tense « 

« I still feel like a Queenslander and being able to tour with the brand was exciting and an honor, » he said

Although he says he doesn’t know if he’ll ever get used to being in front of the camera, he’s just trying to be himself
