Dave Chisnall sent Michael van Gerwen on Friday with a shocking 5-0 victory over the number 1 in the PDC World Championship quarter-finals at Alexandra Palace.

In a great ad, Chisnall’s average was 107. 34 and hit 14 180s when world number 8 whitewashed three-time champion Van Gerwen and made it to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time.

Chisnall’s last four opponents will be two-time winner Gary Anderson, while the other semi-final will be between Gerwyn Price and Stephen Bunting. Chisnall’s resounding victory, who nearly recorded a nine-dart leg and missed a double 12, ended a run of 27 games without a win over Van Gerwen.

The 40-year-old Englishman told Sky Sports: « I’m so proud. I’ve practiced well, I’ve played well, I would say, in the last three or four weeks. I made the effort. I changed my points a little smaller.

« I was confident against Dimitri [Van den Burgh in the preliminary round] and this morning when I woke up I was confident again of just sitting in my hotel room and watching TV.

« I want it [the world title] more than anyone. I know my own abilities, I know that I play well. I can win this. ”

The defeat left Van Gerwen « absolutely devastated ». . He added on Twitter, « I didn’t show up at all tonight and let me down. For some reason it just never happened up there.

“Kudos to @ChizzyChisnall for having been outstanding throughout the game and wish him the best of luck for the rest of the tournament. Thanks for the support. ”

Anderson previously defeated Dirk Van Duijvenbode and lost the opening set before scooping a 5-1 triumph. The Scot, who averages 101. 07, said, « That was good. First set Dirk started like him and I actually played okay – I said: “Let’s go. « But I stuck with it. ”

When asked if we’d see the 2015 and 2016 Anderson, the 50-year-old said in the years he won the title: “Not quite yet. It comes there.

He added, « If I didn’t win this title I would love to see Chizzy [Chisnall] win it. « . He’s been on the road for years and is a phenomenal darts player. ”

Price reached his second consecutive semi-final when Welsh number 3 defeated Daryl Gurney 5-4. Bunting secured a debut in their last four games with a 5-3 win over Krzysztof Ratajski.
